A rich history of native inhabitants followed by European settlers leaves behind compelling myths and legends of the landmark that visitors can indulge in on one of many daily, year-round tours. Maid of the Mist in Amherst, New York

Maid of the Mist -

Step aboard the legendary Maid of the Mist and experience the power and majesty of the combined waters of four Great Lakes. Savor the spectacular views, the thundering roar, the delicate mists and shimmering rainbows of this true national treasure. This world-famous boat takes its passengers right into the heart of the Falls. You can catch the boat every 15 minutes between April and the end of October. Beware - you might get a little misty, but from the moment you put on your giant blue poncho, you'll know you're having a one-of-a-kind experience.

Cave of the Winds -

Be sure to visit the wondrous Cave of the Winds. Get face-to-face with the pounding waters of Niagara Falls and get soaked on the Hurricane Deck where you are just feet from the thundering waters! You cannot get any closer to the Falls! Niagara Falls vacations are truly magical and inspiring , with mother nature at her best! Located on Goat Island, this was once a cave but water erosion has made it too dangerous to explore. An elevator takes visitors to the base of the American Falls where wooden stairs and pathways bring them within 25 feet of the falls. You're advised to wear the raincoat and foot coverings as splashings are frequent. There is also a walk called the Gorge Trip with an incredible view.
Aquarium of Niagara, New York

Aquarium of Niagara -

Known as Niagara's "Other Water Wonder", this aquarium presents an ongoing display of fish and aquatic life from the Great Lakes to the Coral Reef. There are almost 2,000 species ranging from sharks and California sea lions to Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Originally known as the "First Inland Oceanarium" when it opened 30 years ago, the aquarium has grown to over 50 exhibits. Visitors stop to watch the marine demonstrations at 90-minute intervals.

Bedore Tours -

In the business of showing off the Falls since 1950, this tour company offers individualized and group packages-with individual tours running from mid-April to the end of October and group tours year round. During peak season, tours run three times daily using a fleet of 14-passenger air-conditioned vans . Pick-ups are available from all hotels and fees include attractions, parking and any tolls. Multilingual and licensed step-on guides are there to answer any questions and to direct passengers to the sites. Prices vary call for details.

Niagara Wine Trails and Wineries -

Located along the lower river below the roaring waters of the Falls, is the Niagara Wine Trail. These delightful Niagara wineries offer selections for all tastes. The fertile soil and adequate rainfall of the Niagara region contribute to the excellent growing conditions on the vineyards. The Niagara region has a unique microclimate for the production of world class wines, along with a beautiful countryside.
